Who is Senator Edward Kennedy?

"Ted" or popularly known as Edward Moore Kennedy was a United States Senator from Massachusetts and a member of the Democratic Party. In office since November 1962, Kennedy served nine terms in the Senate. At the time of his death, he was the second most senior member of the Senate, after Robert Byrd of West Virginia, and the third-longest-serving senator in U.S. history. He was best known as one of the most outspoken and effective Senate proponents of liberal causes and bills. For many years the most prominent living member of the Kennedy family, he was the youngest brother of President John F. Kennedy and Senator Robert F. Kennedy, both victims of assassinations, and the father of Congressman Patrick J. Kennedy.

Kennedy was born in Boston and raised in Massachusetts, New York, Florida, and England. He was educated at Harvard College, where he was expelled for cheating on an exam but later readmitted following a period of service in the United States Army, and the University of Virginia School of Law. His 1958 marriage to Virginia Joan Bennett produced three children and ended in divorce in 1982. He was a manager in his brother John's successful 1960 campaign for president, then worked as an assistant district attorney for Suffolk County, Massachusetts. Kennedy entered the Senate in a 1962 special election to fill the seat once held by John. He was seriously injured in an airplane crash in 1964 and suffered from lifelong back pain as a result. Kennedy was elected to a full six-year term in 1964 and was reelected in 1970, 1976, 1982, 1988, 1994, 2000 and 2006.

In the 1969 Chappaquiddick incident, the car Kennedy was driving ran off a bridge and plunged into water, resulting in the death of passenger Mary Jo Kopechne. Kennedy pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an accident and was given a suspended sentence; however, doubts about his account of the accident significantly damaged his chances of ever becoming President of the United States. Kennedy's one run for the office, in the 1980 presidential election, ended in a primary campaign loss to incumbent Democratic President Jimmy Carter. Kennedy was known for his oratorical power, with his 1968 eulogy for his brother Robert and his 1980 Democratic National Convention rallying cry for American liberalism being his best-known moments. Kennedy's early opposition and heated rhetoric helped lead to the defeat of the 1987 Robert Bork Supreme Court nomination on philosophical grounds and usher in an era of intense political battles over federal judicial nominations. Kennedy's personal behavior following his divorce became the subject of tabloid scrutiny in the 1980s and early 1990s, but his 1992 marriage to Victoria Anne Reggie stabilized his life.

Kennedy was the chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee. Due to his long history and influence in the legislature, he became known as "The Lion of the Senate". More than 300 bills that Kennedy wrote have been enacted into law, and he was known for his ability to work with Republicans and to find compromises among Senate members with disparate views. Kennedy played a major role in passing many pieces of legislation that have affected the lives of all Americans, including the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965, the National Cancer Act of 1971, the Federal Election Campaign Act Amendments of 1974, the COBRA Act of 1985, the Comprehensive Anti-Apartheid Act of 1986, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, the Ryan White AIDS Care Act in 1990, the Civil Rights Act of 1991, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, the Mental Health Parity Act in 1996 and 2008, the State Children's Health Insurance Program in 1997, the No Child Left Behind Act in 2002, and the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act in 2009. During the 2000s, he was a leader of several failed efforts at immigration reform. Over the course of decades, Kennedy's major legislative goal had been enactment of universal health care, which he continued to work toward during the Obama administration. Kennedy battled a malignant brain tumor first diagnosed in May 2008, which greatly limited his appearances in the Senate; though he survived longer than doctors first expected,he died just before midnight on August 25, 2009 at his home in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts.

I want to buy a laptop.

My desktop computer is retiring its services. I want to buy the latest laptop this month. But the problem is, I don't have enough money for now.

I went to the mall this afternoon and I take a look at the various models of laptops that are being displayed in the store. I have the one that is of my choosing but it is quite regretful because my money is not enough for it.

I need to save more about $600 in order for me to buy it.

I hope that there are lots of those style of laptops because I really want to buy like that as soon as I can have the exact amount on hand.

Term Life Insurance

In this growing and competitive economy and the rising cause of global economic crisis all over the world, one's main question to ponder is: "What will happen to me and my family in the future?"

I am one of those individual who see much worries in the future for the lives of my family and the security of my children as well. I am old and I know that they need me. But I don't know what might happen to me tomorrow and for more years to come. I don't want that they end up with nothing and have nothing in life. I am particular and more concern of their dreams and the fulfillment of each. That is why, I never doubt getting term life insurance because this is the only way which the security of my family will be attained.

We can't tell what will be our future. We can't predict of what might happen then. But there is always a great assurance and solution and I think having term life insurance is the top solution of some of the possible options.

I used to have my hair pony tailed.

I have a long hair and I am not comfortable letting it down always. That is why, when I go out from home, I always clip my hair with hair accessories. This keeps me comfortable and keep me away from being warm.

Oftentimes, I often find myself unease when I show my hair down. It keeps me warm and uncomfortable. It is not a matter that I am not having a good hair, it is just that I just don't like to let it down always.

We consider badminton as a good sport.

Every morning when my sister and I take a jog in the open field, we stopped at the badminton court to play badminton. We set 30 minutes to 1 hour playing badminton. We include playing badminton as our main sport because it is not too hazardous to play the game. All it takes is to put an eye on its shuttle and hit it to and fro. Being vigilant is the main armour in the game. It is important that every player is alert and take active moves and actions.

It has been almost 5 years now that we play badminton. We love it and we just can't resist playing with it. It has been part of our daily routine.

Easily having friends.

I am a friendly person. I am not particular of choosing somoene to be my friend because I easily understand a person. Wherever I go, I easily gain and win friends. Even if I am riding in a bus, a jeepney, even I am eating at a restaurant or shopping at a mall, even at the church and in the school. I can easily gain friends. In fact, I am not the first to make the move, they just share something to me about their views and personal problems(even if I don't know them). I just listen to them and share also what's my views.

I don't really know why in an instant I can build friendship. I don't know what is with me. All I know is that I deal people with respect and love. I feel them special. I smile to them and I treat them as my family. I want to feel them comfortable, without too much worries. Maybe this is my asset.

But frankly, I just don't know why.

Role of each member of the family.

Having a family compasses happiness because we help each other at home. Disciplining children is the primary role of parents. Instilling to the children what are their roles at home direct them to achieve their responsibilities.

I grew up in a family where values formation is the main focus. My parents never lack the morals and discipline that they shared to us. That is why, we grow well and not a problem to society. Values formation starts at home. And one way to achieve these formation is through the responsibilities that each family member play.

Father/Husband. As the head of the family, he is the principal breadwinner. How mush does he earning determines the economic condition of the family. He exercises discipline among his children together with the mother. He is the major decision-maker and is looked up to as the leader of the family. He should pitch in the household work when the wife is working for additional income.

Mother/Wife. She is the foundation of love, care and affection in the family. Housekeeping, budgeting and taking care of the children are the three major roles of the wife and mother. Teaching the children with housekeeping task is her responsibility as well. Furthermore, she is responsible for inculcating religious ideals and spiritual growth of the family.

Children. The children should acknowledge and respect the authority of the parents. They must willingly share and cooperate in household responsibilities to prepare them for their future roles and lessen the load of household chores of the parents. They must show concern for the money, time and efforts spent by their parents by completing their studies. When old enough and ready earning, they must share their earnings with the family. Furthermore, when their parents are already old, they should take care of them.

I never wonder why my parents discipline us in any way for us to shape as a person with good values and proper conduct. Their upbringings make us a better person not just for our family but also to the community as well.

Household pests are insects and animals that live in the house. They are dangerous to our health. They carry diseases and germs. They destroy properties. They make our life unpleasant. A pest is something we dislike. Ants, flies, mosquitoes, fleas, white ants, rats and mice are household pests.

But how do we get rid out of them?

To get rid of flies, we should keep our surrounding clean. Bury or burn all garbage, always use a sanitary toilet, keep all food covered, use wire screen covers for food on the table.

For mosquitoes. Clean our surroundings, bury all empty cans and coconut shells, cover standing water with soil, use effective sprayers to kill them. To kill wrigglers, pour kerosene on standing water. They will not be able to come to the surface to breathe.

For cockroaches. We should clean and sweep behind shelves and cabinets, keep all food covered, spray their hiding places with insecticides, keep everything clean and dry. Furthermore, sunshine help keep away any pests. Expose things or furniture under the heat of the sun even for thrice a month.

For ants. Legs of tables and cabinets may be painted with kerosene or insecticide. Look for ants' hills and nests and destroy them. Salt may be sprinkled on ants' nests to drive them away. Soapy water poured on ant hills also helps to get rid of ants. Keep everything clean. Destroy the queen and its ants' hills. Apply kerosene or black tar on parts of the house that meet the ground.

For fleas. Keep places where cats and dogs sleep clean. Patch up small holes and small opening in the house so that rats and mice can't get through. Keep food, like rice in cans. Small bits of food and crumbs attract mice and rats, these should be swept away. Use rat traps to get rid of rats. Bathe your dog and cats often as needed to get rid of fleas.

Cleanliness starts at the home and in order to avoid these pests, our home should always be clean and free from any harmful pests everyday.

The hair is the "shining glory" of a person. It shows the glow of one's personality. That is why, proper care of the hair is a must especially when applying shampoo.

I have a bad hair. It is dry and oftentimes, it makes me feel uneasy. Just recently, I discovered that I have dandruff. I don't know where I get it.

I discovered that the shampoo I am using makes my hair dry. I switch to another brand and I have noticed that my hair gradually glow. I am now at ease using the new shampoo that fits for my hair.

I have read an article about how to take care of the hair and the proper way to apply shampoo.

It is very important that when we apply shampoo, we have to get an amount of water and pour a little amount of shampoo and mix them.

It is not proper to directly pour shampoo to your hair because this will cause extreme dryness. Shampoo are made up of chemicals and it is through mixing it with water that it will lessen the chemical content.

Maria Corazon "Cory" Sumulong Cojuangco Aquino

Maria Corazon "Cory" Sumulong Cojuangco Aquino (January 25, 1933 – August 1, 2009) was the 11th President of the Philippines, serving from 1986 to 1992. She was the first female president of the Philippines and Asia.

Corazon C. Aquino was married to Senator Benigno Aquino, Jr. (1932–1983), a leading figure in the political opposition against the autocratic rule of President Ferdinand Marcos. Her husband was assassinated upon his return from exile in the United States on August 21, 1983. Aquino, who had no prior political experience, became a focal point and unifying force of the opposition against Marcos. She was drafted to run against Marcos in the 1986 snap presidential elections. Aquino was installed as President by the peaceful 1986 People Power Revolution.

Maria Corazon Sumulong Cojuangco was born to Jose Cojuangco of Tarlac and Demetria Sumulong of Antipolo, Rizal. She was the sixth of eight children in what was considered to be one of the richest Chinese-Mestizo families in the Philippines, in Tarlac. Her ancestry was one-eighth Tagalog from her maternal side, one-eighth Kapampangan and one-fourth Spanish from her paternal side, and half-Chinese from both maternal and paternal sides.

She was sent to St. Scholastica's College in Manila where she finished grade school as class valedictorian in 1943. In 1946, she enrolled for a year in high school at the Assumption Convent in Manila. Later, she was sent to the United States to study in Kuba at the Ravenhill Academy in Philadelphia, the Notre Dame Convent School in New York, and the College of Mount Saint Vincent, also in New York. Meanwhile, she worked as a volunteer in the 1948 United States presidential campaign of Republican Thomas Dewey against President Harry Truman. Aquino died of cardiopulmonary arrest after complications of colon cancer at the age of 76 on August 1, 2009, 3:18 a.m., at the Makati Medical Center.

Aquino's body lay in state at a public wake at the St. Benilde Gymnasium of La Salle Green Hills in Mandaluyong up to August 3, when it was later transferred to the Manila Cathedral. She was the first member of the laity to have been permitted to lie in state in the cathedral. This honor has always been reserved to deceased archbishops of Manila. A crowd with an estimated number of 120,000 people showed up to witness the transfer of her remains from La Salle Green Hills to the Manila Cathedral. Most of the crowd was concentrated at the Ninoy Aquino memorial statue in Ayala Avenue, Makati, where the hearse paused briefly as the crowds sang "Bayan Ko," one of the anthems of the 1986 EDSA Revolution. Confetti is showered from above as the casket containing the remains of former Philippine President Corazon 'Cory' Aquino is carried out of the Manila Cathedral in Manila, Philippines Wednesday Aug. 5, 2009. Aquino was laid to rest Wednesday next to her assassinated husband after a funeral procession joined by hundreds of thousands of supporters who hailed her as an exemplar of moral leadership.

Thank you Madame President, Mrs. Corazon C. Aquino!

It has been a great loss for us Filipinos for losing a wonderful person who stand to fight for Democracy. I remembered, I am 8 years old at those times that EDSA Revolution happened due to the Martial Law uprising here in the Philippines. I thought that was the end of our country, my family and me. Though young and innocent I am in those times, I never have forgotten that there were lots of military men gathered in our place, bringing with them their fierce armour - guns, canons and others. I clearly saw in my two eyes, they were passing to and fro at our house whom they wait for the command of the existing president to declare war and probably they will cause and make lots of trouble in our place.

That extremely horrible experience is always clear in my thoughts that until now, I don't forget about it.

It is in the person of Madame Corazon C. Aquino that peace and democracy were attained. People are happily free from the chains of slavery and dictatorship. She gave a new face of the Philippines. A face that supports and helps a lot of Filipino people from the hands of cruel and selfish administration. I remembered, it was in the year 1986 that liberty soars up high and free us from bondage. Madame Corazon C. Aquino makes our nation, a land of freedom and justice. She stands to defend our rights and the rights of every Filipino people. When justice and peace were obtained in those times, we jump with great happiness that we then be able to do and live things normally (without anymore worrying much of the things that might happen to us).

For years and up to the present, Filipinos are free!

It was August 1, 2009 at 3:18 in the early dawn, the woman and former Philippine president who fight for all the Filipinos' rights, died of a Colon Cancer. How sad these days are. How hurtful to have loss a wonderful person that brought DEMOCRACY in every Filipino. It is a great loss for all of us. But as life is not ours to take, I am pretty sure that she is in the right hands in Heaven. She is there with the Lord in Paradise.

It is painful for losing her. But it is more painful if Philippines is not free at these times.

We, Filipinos, owe much of our lives to her. And she will always be a part of our existence. She is a part of our lives. She will always be remembered.
